Welcome to JRC Product Development Limited. We are a small company that specialises in engineering and design, helping customers develop complex products and medical devices.
About
My name is James Coop
I am a mechanical engineer with 14 years experience, 8 of which were spent at two of the UK's leading design agencies. In 2018, I took the leap of faith to go self-employed. The objective today remains the same as it was then - to provide senior level mechanical engineering and design expertise, directly to clients, at reasonable rates.
Mechanically minded and driven to succeed, I can bring valuable technical insight to most types of project, and would be delighted to speak with you about any requirements you might have.
As a small company, we can be flexible in the way we work with you, and as a customer, you will always know who you are working with. We take pride in the work we do and apply the same work ethic to all projects, regardless of their budget.
Innovation drives us to develop elegant solutions. Efficiency ensures we deliver these solutions promptly and cost-effectively. Integrity guides our work and service. Together, these principles empower us to provide excellent value to our customer.

About me personally, I love cycling and have recently become a Dad.

Innovation
With a keen eye for detail and a passion for innovation, we seamlessly blend engineering principles with creative design thinking. This unique approach enables us to conceptualise and develop elegant solutions for precision products and medical devices.
Our work focusses on effective use of design and materials, to create products that are not only functional but also with sustainability and long term robustness in mind. We excel at tackling complex engineering challenges, and our ability to design intricate products with complex mechanisms allows us to find innovative solutions to even the most difficult problems.
Efficiency
As a small business, we operate with streamlined processes and minimal overheads. This allows us to allocate time efficiently and focus on delivering high-quality design services. Our flexible approach allows us to fit in with changing client needs, and ensures timely and cost-effective service.

We use top quality software and equipment, and can get hold of anything specific (within reason) that might be needed to fulfil your project requirements.

In-house prototyping with FDM and SLA 3D printers helps us iterate quickly, and speed the journey to manufacturing data release.

Integrity
We operate with honesty and integrity, and hope to form friendly and long lasting relationships with customers. We convey work transparently to ensure that you always receive the full picture, and we are glad to be viewed as an extension to your in-house engineering team.

We always welcome honest feedback from clients and enjoy the mutual benefits of teaching and learning with them.

Engineering and Design
Define your user needs and explore them through concept design and development.
We transform concepts into products with a combination of engineering creativity and purposeful design. With a knack for all things mechanical we strive to deliver robustness and reliability in everything we create.

Technical analysis and simulation capabilities can be used to further your understanding of specific issues, but are also employed though our design processes. We take the view that simulation and analytical methods are there to inform our work, but do not attempt to sell them as a specific service. We believe a pragmatic approach to engineering is best!
Prototype and Manufacture
In-house prototyping and longstanding relationships with expert partners enable us to fulfil most types of manufacturing requirements.

Beyond prototyping, we can work with manufacturing partners of your choice, or through our recommendations - both in the UK and overseas. We can help support your journey to production with technical services such as DFM or cost reduction exercises, 3D scanning for part inspection or reverse engineering , process capability analysis, or general engineering troubleshooting on production scale-up issues.

We have extensive experience in design and manufacture of intricate parts, injection moulded or CNC machined, and view this type of work as our bread and butter.

We often get creative with our 3D printers to produce parts beyond those of standard 3D prints.
Analysis and Test
We take a pragmatic and calculated approach to design. All of our work contains some level of analytical problem solving, whether it be deriving solutions from solid mechanics or defining appropriate dimension schemes and assessing a design's risk with tolerance analysis. We use analytical techniques efficiently, and pair them with thought through design to deliver well engineered solutions for customers.

Projects sometimes require parallel developments of bespoke test equipment and fixtures. We can readily build these into a project or complete them as a standalone activity, in conjunction with advising on test methods and reporting. Our in-house test capabilities are limited but we can recommend suppliers to work with, or work on a loaned equipment basis. Small pieces of test kit can also be purchased through us.
